Rain, rain, go away, come again another day... Damn, didn't work. Walking along a road-- uncaring for whichever name it belonged to-- Syrius wondered at why the Weatherman was allowing these storm fronts to settle on this stupid little town. It was already bad enough he had to hide here from the authorities (like the CIA for one) that he didn't need to have it be constantly rainy. Dark and gloomy, those were fine. Raining? Only good on for a night op, as cover. Normal activities? Horrific for the mood. And thus he had resorted to taking a stroll in the park, where hopefully the tree cover was thick enough to give him a little relief from it and some privacy.
Glancing up as a giant spike of lightning struck somewhere upon the earth and lit up said earth brightly for a moment, Syrius resigned himself to not also having the best amount of cover this evening from prying eyes. Hands in his sweater jacket and hoodie up over his head, he hummed a old tune he remembered way back in the day... when he caught a glimpse of something shiny in the wake of a lightning strike. Blinking and peering closer at whatever it was in the distance, Syrius wondered why he was seeing something... metallic in the park. At this hour. And it wasn't no water fountain, too far and too big... Strange.
Walking a little faster, Syrius cut from the path and into the undergrowth in the direction of the shiny thing. Why was it so shiny in the dark? He liked shiny. Shiny was good... usually. Shiny gun barrels pointed at him weren't. Grinning a bit at the thought, Syrius round the 'bend' of a tree and came to a lurching stop, nearly falling backward as a sight that suddenly scared him popped into his vision clearly. A shiny --very shiny!-- circular disk-like structure or vehicle sat before him. Alien and strange, Syrius tried to classify it with anything he had seen before... and couldn't. Except one image of a old file popped to his head. It's true then... Area 51, the propaganda, all those magazines... Is this a UFO or something?
And with that in mind, Syrius dived behind a tree and waited, watching the strange wonder in fascination. It was strange to find something as easily as a stroll in a park... Something mankind had spent millions, maybe billions on and years of research. And BAM! He found it with no effort, without even trying. Strange.
Humming to himself, he sat there in a crouch for hours, hugging the tree and watching the circular vehicle patiently and with a hunter's eye. He blinked rarely, flexed his muscles to ensure no spasms, and took slow deep breaths to keep himself calm as he waited to see if it would do anything. Yet despite the hours he waited, nothing happened. Eventually, even his keen senses and iron control of his body waned as he tired and eyes began to droop. The body began to shut down, as morning seemed to be fast approaching and he hadn't even fallen asleep yet. Probably not good, but he didn't want to miss anything. With that last thought in a sad anti-climax, he fell over into a deep sleep, a loud snore punctuating his entrance to sleepy time.
What felt like moments later, Syrius jumped out of his sleep, literally resulting in him going face-first into the tree he had hid behind all night. Cursing loudly and groaning, Syrius looked around the tree--!
Only to see nothing in the now-empty grove. Frowning in disappointment and confusion, Syrius rubbed his eyes, gave himself a hard slap, then looked once more. Had he dreamed it? Had it been there? Who knew. He had fallen asleep and usually that would be a deathtrap. Just this time he had lost sight of a wonder... and it had slipped away without a trace. Sighing again, Syrius shivered as cold fatigue set in from the constant pitter-patter of rain having pounded on him all night, despite the tree cover. Off to a actual bed and twelve hours of sleep!
... Actually, nevermind. Three.
